PHALANX is a tank game in your browser, run by Tektology. This page says what the game keeps about you, why, and for how long. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and nothing is sold or handed to anyone.

Your account

Your callsign, which is your sign-in name and your name on the field; your password, if you have one; your rank (player or admin); and the date the account was made. An admin can add a short note to an account.

A passkey you add keeps only its public half on the server, with the name of the device and when it was made and last used. The private half never leaves your device.

Sign in with Google

If you use it, Google tells the game your Google account number and email address, and the game keeps both so it knows your account next time. Your first name is used once, to suggest a callsign, and is not kept. The game asks Google for nothing else: not your contacts, files, mail or anything in your Google account.

What Google keeps about the sign-in is covered by Google’s privacy policy.

Your game record

Your scores and career figures (kills, deaths, captures, time played, accuracy and the rest), your saved tanks, your settings, your Flux and wagers, your votes on briefings, and your last few visits (when you deployed and when you left).

Your callsign and figures are public on the leaderboard, the tournament board and the wagers book. Admins also see the player list and recent visits.

Cookies and this device

One cookie keeps you signed in, for 30 days or until you sign out. Two more live for a few minutes during a Google sign-in and are then removed. None of them track you anywhere else.

Your browser also keeps a few settings for this device, such as graphics and full screen. They stay on the device.

Logs and reports

The web server keeps an ordinary access log: your IP address, the time, the page asked for and your browser’s name. It is kept for 14 days, to run the site and to spot attacks.

The game’s pages report how smoothly they run and any errors they hit. Those reports carry no IP address, no name and no account.

Where it lives

Everything is on one server Tektology rents from DigitalOcean in New York. Every file the pages need comes from that server, so loading them tells no one else you were here. The game’s records are backed up every night; a copy is kept for up to two months.

Removing your account

Write to tank@tektology.com from the email on your account, or with your callsign, and your account and everything above that belongs to it will be deleted. Backups age out on their own within two months. The same address answers any question about this page.
